POKOTABI / Stand Kuriken
スタンドくりけん
At Stand Kuriken, beef tendon with ponzu, sashimi and grilled fish pair naturally with sake. There are plenty of options for the final course, too, including ochazuke and grilled rice balls.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
One diner particularly enjoyed the beef tendon with ponzu, saying the tender tendon worked well with the citrusy sauce and even seemed as though it would be good over rice. If you are unsure what to order first at Stand Kuriken, this dish stands out as something that can work both as a drinking snack and as part of a meal.
After toasting with tomato sours and highballs, the same diner enjoyed chilled sake and ordered striped jack and whale sashimi. The menu also lists sashimi of both, as well as a mixed sashimi platter for 750 yen per serving; the menu notes that it can be ordered in increments of 0.5 servings. That makes it easy to start with a smaller selection.
There is more to the fish selection than sashimi. The menu includes overnight-dried mackerel and hokke, salt-grilled Spanish mackerel, and flatfish that can be simmered or deep-fried. Sake descriptions help guide the choice, too: Taisetsu is described as having rounded umami and a clean finish, while Tengumai is noted for its balance of acidity and depth.
For a final dish, options include ochazuke with your choice of seared spicy cod roe, pickled plum or nori (480 yen), 2 grilled rice balls (500 yen), and chicken-and-egg rice porridge (680 yen). Whether you are enjoying drinks with a few small plates or want one more bite before calling it a night, there is a dish to suit the occasion.
